Silicon Valley Comes to Malaysia is a unique event driven by the strong partnership between the Malaysian government and the private sector in motivating Malaysian startups to create global brands. This exciting showcase supports the government's Digital Malaysia Masterplan, which is aimed at spurring the economy by accelerating innovation. Over 700 entrepreneurs and startups as well as 300 invited guests from Malaysia's corporate industry and stakeholders from the country's entrepreneurship ecosystem attended the exclusive two-day SVC2M conference to interact, network and be inspired by 17 Silicon Valley icons, investors and celebrities.

Silicon Valley icons such as Priceline.com's founder Jeff Hoffman, YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim, LinkedIn co-founder Konstantin Guericke and AngelList founder Naval Ravikant led inspiring keynote sessions as well as question and answer sessions. The entrepreneurs won exclusive invitations to SVC2M by submitting their ideas or startups. In addition to attending the conference, over 50 startups or ideas were selected by Silicon Valley icons themselves to attend special one-on-one sessions with the icons for first hand advice on how to accelerate their startups. Silicon Valley icons such as YouTube's Jawed Karim, CMEA Capital's Saad Khan, LinkedIn co-founder Konstantin Guericke, Napster founder Shawn Fanning and AngelList founder Naval Ravikant made these selections.

StartupMalaysia.org and Global Entrepreneurship Week Malaysia (GEW) patron Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah represented Prime Minister Dato' Sri Najib Tun Razak to launch SVC2M and StartupMalaysia.org, by delivering a keynote address and unveiling the StartupMalaysia.org roadmap via a video presentation.   Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) CEO Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, Global Entrepreneurship Sdn Bhd founder Dash Dhakshinamoorthy and YouNoodle CEO Rebeca Hwang were present at SVC2M's launch.   From the pool of startups and entrepreneurs, 100 were shortlisted to attend an intensive innovation workshop called Startup Experience. This marks their entry into the 18-month StartupMalaysia.org initiative. Under this program, these entrepreneurs will stand the chance to be selected for incubation and training in Silicon Valley, and to pitch to global venture capitalists for funding.   SVC2M and StartupMalaysia.org have resulted from strong collaborations between the Malaysian government and the private sector to catalyze innovative Malaysian startups and spur the economy.

SVC2M is a not-for-profit event and was jointly presented by MDeC and GESB and supported by technology partner YouNoodle – San Francisco based firm, specializing in entrepreneurship programs. SVC2M took place on October 20 and 21 and was organized as part of GEW Malaysia 2011 activities.
